Porcelain is ceramic fired denser and harder. It absorbs almost no water, which is why it goes on floors and wet walls where plain ceramic would not. The color is filed as White. It comes overmount.

How it meets the countertop

An overmount, or drop-in. The sink sits on top of the counter with its rim overlapping the opening, so the cutout underneath does not need a polished edge. Simpler and cheaper to fit; the rim is the compromise, since anything on the counter has to go over it to reach the bowl.
